Redearth Education is a child education Non-Government Organization registered in Uganda in 2009, which delivers Continuous Professional Development to government primary school teachers to enhance teaching and learning in primary schools. Redearth Education works closely with the District Education Office, and her education programs focus on positive pupil outcomes, sustainability, collaboration, and local governance. Redearth Education works across the country but with a Head Office in Masindi District. Redearth Education runs programs that; develop good practice in teaching and learning for primary and Nursery school teachers, training teachers in making learning aids from no cost/low cost materials, Early Grade Reading, Early Grade Mathematics and has a model Nursery School with over 75 pupils, which is also used to demonstrate good educational practice in Nursery Education. Redearth Education Uganda has over 30 staff working in these programs and has been able to impact on over 75,000 children over the years and 1,500 well trained teachers.

ROLE PURPOSE:
We are looking for an experienced accountant to oversee general accounting operations by controlling and managing our financial transactions.
The accountant’s responsibilities include; reconciling account balances and bank statements, maintaining general ledger and preparing end month, quarter and year close processes. A successful accountant combines excellent analytical skills with a thorough knowledge of accounting principles to analyse financial reports and forecasts. The ideal candidate will have experience in collaborating and/or managing a team of junior officers. The other accountant’s duties will also include ensuring accuracy and effectiveness in all of our accounting tasks
SCOPE OF ROLE:
Reports to: Finance and Business Development Manager
Staff reporting to this post: N/A
KEY AREAS OF ACCOUNTABILITY :
- Verify, allocate, post and reconcile accounts payable and receivable
- Produce error-free accounting reports and present their results
- Analyse financial information and summarize financial status
- Spot errors and suggest ways to improve efficiency and spending
- Provide technical support and advice on Management accountant
- Review and recommend modifications to accounting systems and procedures
- Manage accounting assistants and bookkeepers
- Participate in financial standards setting and in forecast process
- Provide input into department’s goal setting process
- Prepare financial statements and produce budget according to schedule
- Assist with tax audits and tax returns
- Direct internal and external audits to ensure compliance
- Plan, assign and review staff’s work
- Support month-end and year-end close process
- Develop and document business processes and accounting policies to maintain and strengthen internal controls
- Ensure compliance with accounting principles
Required Skills, Abilities and Experience:
- Proven experience as a financial controller, accounting supervisor and or senior accountant
- Thorough knowledge of basic accounting procedures
- In-depth understanding of Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP)
- Awareness of fundraising trends
- Familiarity with financial accounting statements
- Experience with general ledger functions and the month-end/year-end close process
- Hands-on experience with accounting software packages, like QuickBooks
- Advanced MS Excel skills
- Accuracy and attention to detail
- Aptitude for numbers and quantitative skills
The postholder will be expected to undertake other tasks as assigned by their line manager.
The postholder must be prepared to work in other Districts as required.

Minimum of at least 3 years’ experience in Accounting role in an NGO or other reputable Institutions. |
Proven ability of successfully reporting and Accounting for multiple grants/Projects in accordance to donor guidelines and organisational policies |
Proven ability and experience in preparing relevant books of Accounts in a reputable organisation. |
Ability to develop the skill sets of specified teams |
Sound knowledge of laws and regulations regarding finance and employment |
